THE 67-FOOT BLUEWATER BRILLIANCE

FAST SAILING YACHT OPTIMISED FOR SHORTHANDED SAILING

Pegasus 67 is an owner-driven, shorthanded, easy-to-handle blue water cruiser. By internal hull volume, she is a typical 60-foot volume sailing boat. But big enough to accommodate a longitudinally placed 3,5 m dinghy garage and hydraulic gangway. Performance shorthanded sailing and easy manoeuvring are possible due to low loads, reduced sail area, and light displacement.

She is being developed for couples and families planning to spend longer periods of time on board in total autonomy. Pegasus 67 will shorthandedly sail longer distances in comfort with maximum safety on board.

The Pegasus 67 has a seamless transition between the cockpit and the saloon through sliding glass doors. Saloon with the gimbaled settee and windows with a full 360° view delivers a pleasant, unique, light-filled living space.

Different layout options offer different cabin and head options in various combinations. The internal navigation station, with all the navigation and communication equipment, horizon view, and view of the sails, accommodates two crew members and allows full control from inside the boat in inclement weather to remain comfortable, safe, and dry in harsh conditions.

Gimbaled settee

The lightweight carbon fibre gimbaled settee is designed to gimbale on the boat’s longitudinal axis, compensating for the angle of the heel and thereby keeping the seating level. This minimises the physical strain needed to brace yourself to stay upright and helps reduce the disorientation that contributes to seasickness.

Managing everything from the cockpit

To maximise safety and ease of manoeuvres, the Pegasus 67 is designed for everything to be managed from the cockpit. All halyards and sheets are led to stoppers next to the helm stations with access from both sides. Including single-line reefing for two or three reefs. The tack line, head sail and downwind furling lines, are also routed aft, while the mainsheet is safely located overhead on an arch.

Four electric winches take the effort out of sail handling, while the rig is designed for several headsails to remain hoisted while furled, including the Code 0, J1, and J2, making for quick and easy sail changes.

Moving safely around the boat

The Pegasus 67 prioritises safe movement at sea, with secure grab rails throughout, plus rounded furniture with built-in grab handles. Short distances between the different areas mean safe grip is always within reach, even on the cockpit roof and coachroof.

Jackstays and strong points are provided both on deck and in the cockpit. Additionally, the 75 cm high solid pushpit and pulpit are taller than standard, further contributing to safety and the ease of moving around the boat.

Autonomy and self-sufficiency in the base price

In addition to two standard water makers for almost unlimited fresh water on passage, the Pegasus 67 has built-in filters to ensure impurities are removed when filling water tanks in port. There’s also a further layer of filtration for drinking water at the galley. To reduce fresh water consumption the galley has a sea water supply for rinsing dishes, while toilets can be switched between fresh and sea water flushing modes.

Composite structure

The hull construction is of a carefully controlled hybrid of carbon and glass fibre, with a PVC core and uses vacuum-infused vinylester resins. The combination of glass and carbon fibres increases impact resistance, while simultaneously improving structural stability and reducing displacement. The boat benefits from a monocoque construction, in which the bulkheads and floors are fully laminated to the hull, while the deck is also glued and laminated to the hull. This creates an extremely stiff structure, without adding unnecessary weight.

A crash box in the bow further mitigates against risk of collision with floating objects. This foam-filled compartment is right forward under the anchor locker and is fully self-contained, so water cannot enter the rest of the boat, even if the hull is damaged.

Equally, the anchor locker and tender garage aft are watertight from the rest of the hull.

A robust top keel plate is bolted into a moulded hull recess, which evenly spreads keel loads over the hull structure. This is engineered and built to withstand grounding at low speeds.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is a 67-footer still truly a yacht for shorthanded sailing?

Yes, we believe it is. All the sailing can be done from the cockpit including reefing. There are two steering wheels, and all sailing functions are led to the cockpit area: at the helms. This includes all sheets, mainsail halyard, mainsail reefing line, and furling lines for the J1, self-tacking J2, Code 0 and asymmetric gennaker. Four electric winches make for very easy handling.

Can the main sail reefing and furling system be done from the cockpit?

Yes: Boom is equipped with racks to increase the lazy bag's size and spread the lazy jacks further apart. The mainsail therefore stacks super-easily into the oversized lazy bag system.

The single-line reefing system works very well in all conditions and enables easy and safe handling, eliminating the need to go to the mast when reefing or stowing the mainsail. Both solutions have been proven on Pegasus 50 and larger yachts.

How do you manage power on long-distance cruises?

As standard, all Pegasus has:

  • 10kW constant power generator

  • A secondary alternator: Mastervolt Alpha Compact 28/110 Ah on diesel engine, with an Alpha Pro Regulator

  • Top-of-the-line Solbian walk-on solar panels installed on the coachroof with a total 1.5Wp power

  • Watt & Sea POD 600W hydro-generator

  • Two 5kW short chargers & inverters

Is there a watermaker?

Yes, more than one. As standard, Pegasus 67 has two Schenker ZEN 50L/H (13 Gal/H), 24V installed in the technical locker.

What is a gimbaled settee?

The entire settee in the salon (table and seats) can gimbal/rotate by +/- 10 degrees to compensate for the boat’s angle of heel. It rotates along longitudinal axles allowing people to sit or sleep at or near level. This reduces fatigue and greatly improves comfort. The rotation is made through an electric motor, intuitively controlled by a switch that allows it to rotate in either direction.

What are the benefits of the Pegasus 67 tandem keel?

The aim of the design is to increase lateral resistance especially while manoeuvring at low speed in confined spaces, without increasing frictional resistance, which reduces speed under sail.

The tandem keel fins increase the keel’s lateral area, thus increasing lateral resistance. Acting together, the two fins also produce more lift, significantly reducing leeway when sailing upwind.

What is the material of the hull?

The hull construction is a hybrid between carbon and glass fibres, PVC core and vinylester vacuum infused with the resin. Glass fibre can be superior in performance for some purposes, such as the outer skin, where protection against impact damage is important. And on the other hand, carbon reduces the total weight of the yacht and provide better structural strength and stability.

How big are the water and diesel tanks?

The water tank, located in the centre of the boat, has an 800-litre (211 US gallons) capacity.

Stainless steel diesel tank also have an 800-litre (211 US gallons) capacity, with the possibility of increasing it.

Because of the location, both have no impact on heel angles.
